Oakencroft Center

Oakencroft Farm is the birthplace of Virginia winemaking. Since 2019, Alexander Nicholson has worked with the DN Batten Foundation to transform the farm into a sustainable, biodiverse model for the future of agriculture.
The Oakencroft Center, completed in 2023, is a modern conference venue where conservationists, farmers, students, and policy-makers gather to plan the future of agriculture. The Center started as an existing farm structure that was extensively renovated and re-engineered to serve as a relaxing, inspiring environment. While Sutphin Architecture designed the building, the owner played a unique role acting as interior designer, selecting every last detail that makes the Center such a special place to be.

Alexander Nicholson continues to support the growth and development of Oakencroft Farm in what is one of our most cherished local relationships. We’ve built a solar field, the farm manager’s house, and a winemaking facility, as well as the Oakencroft Farm House, and the Oakencroft Tasting Room which is adjacent to the Center.
