About the Role

As an Assistant Project Manager, you’ll work closely with Project Managers to gain hands-on experience in estimating, scheduling, subcontractor management, and client relations. This is an exciting opportunity for an emerging construction professional to develop their skills while contributing to meaningful projects, including light commercial, historic, and high-end residential construction.

You’ll play an essential role in every phase of the construction process—from estimating to project close-out—and build strong relationships with Charlottesville’s top architects, tradespeople, and clients.

What You’ll Do

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with estimating and budget creation for new projects.

  • Supporting monthly budget updates, billing, and cost coding.

  • Learning to develop and manage project schedules.

  • Performing material takeoffs, placing orders, and tracking critical deliveries.

  • Managing submittals, RFIs, and change orders.

  • Learning from and assisting experienced Superintendents and field staff.

  • Building relationships with subcontractors, tradespeople, architects, and design professionals.

  • Participating in weekly Owner, Architect, and Contractor (OAC) meetings.

  • Assisting with writing contracts, proposals, and other business documents.

What You’ll Bring

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, along with the ability to quickly learn proprietary construction budgeting software.

  • Knowledge: Familiarity with reading construction and engineering drawings.

  • Mindset: A desire to learn, grow, and contribute to the success of our team and community.

  • Organization: Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Location: Ability to commute/relocate to Charlottesville, VA: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

What We’d Love to See

  • A year or two of related experience in construction or a similar field.

  • A degree in construction management, engineering, economics, or a related discipline.
